HILLEROD
Dispensable Worthwhile Very recommendable Marvel

It is situated 1 h. far from Copenhagen, 1 h. far from Helsingor and 1 h. far from Roskilde by train. They form a square approximately.

The main attraction is the Frederiksborg castle . It is really fantastic, typical of fairy tales in a marvellous environment. The castle seems to appear from the lake with the beautiful green roofs contrasting with the red stone of the facades.
It was built by king Christian IV from 1600 to 1620. This king is considered the greatest constructor of the Danish monarchy. The style is Dutch Renaissance, as the Kronborg castle.

Frederiksborg
capilla de Frederiksborg

In the interior there is a magnificent and spectacularly decorated chapel where the Dannish kings were crowned from 1671 to 1840. In 1859 a fire destroyed the castle that soon after was restored. There are surprising rooms such as the Great Hall, The Audience Hall or the Knight chamber.

The castle keeps the National History museum formed by rooms and paintings, portraits and more examples of Danish art. Everything is chronologically ordered from 1500 till present.
Finally, I would suggest going to the backward garden. The castle has had habitually nice gardens in French Baroque style (1720) or English style (1840). From 1993 to 1996 the French Baroque gardens have been recreated and offers us a nice walk with the castle, the lake and the nature as background.
