WESTERN ROSS
Dispensable Worthwhile Very recommendable Marvel

From Inverness we took the car to visit another region of the Highlands, known as Western Ross, that is located at the south of Ullapool. Instead of following towards Ullapool we entered the A832, a road that describes a circle through this region.

We stopped at Rogie Falls , a beautiful waterfalls that you can contemplate from two bridges (one is a suspension bridge).

The road leads us through wonderful landscapes typical from the Highlands and towards the coast.

landscapes of the Highlands

Throughout the coastline , villages of typical Scottish houses, cliffs, beaches, lakes and bays following one another amazed us.
We made a stop in Inverewe, a botanic garden with tropical plants, that can survive due to the microclimate present in a very small piece of land. We didn´t visit it. In the shop you may buy all sorts of current and exotic plant seeds.
I have little to explain about this region, as the nature talks itself.

Afterwards we arrived in Gairloch , a summer tourism village where we didn't stay for long. At Gairloch the road leaves the coast and return deep in the Highlands and the fabulous landscapes.

Along this journey we reached the north point of our trip to Scotland. If you would like to visit less frequented spots to the north, you can find ferries from Ullapool sailing to the islands Lewis or Harris.

From Inverness you could continued to the north and travel to the Orkneys or the Shetland islands, with a wild and rich nature, cliffs and fauna. These places are one of the best preserved in Scotland and maybe the most exotic because of their latitude.
